Gunner - an Australian Shepherd
Search & Rescue Dog
with Central Piedmont Search and Rescue
Gunner is a 3 yr old Australian Shepherd. He started his career training at about 6 months of age. He loves searching for people. As of 2011, we have been on 2 live searches and in both cases after being deployed the person was found by others. Our proudest moment was when he was able to certify at 18 months of age as a NCPDA (North Carolina Police Dog Association) trailing dog the first time he went to certify. He is eager and very willing to learn and loves to play his hide and seek game for either treats or his fire hose toy. The funniest experience we have had together is when my twins (7yr olds at the time) hid from him and he came up from behind them jumped on my daughter, knocked her down, and started barking while both of them had the look on their faces as if they had seen a ghost. My wife and I laughed and laughed.
The SAR group is a all volunteer team, we are located in the piedmont of North Carolina, approx. 20 miles NE of Charlotte, our base camp is in Concord. We are a regional response team. Our team has man-trackers, ATVs, K9s and mounted searchers. We are a young team being organized for a little over 2 years. Just this past year we have been either deployed or placed on standby on about 20 occasions. Our website is www.CPSAR.org .
If you are a member of Search & Rescue, K-9 or Mounted Patrol, please allow me to paint a small portrait for you at no charge, in gratitude for your service.
